Hospital-based dental care

For some patients, comprehensive dental treatment may be best provided in a hospital under general anesthesia.

Spectra Dental Care provides hospital-based dental treatment under general anesthesia for patients whose medical, behavioral, sensory, communication, or safety needs may make care in a traditional dental office difficult or unsafe.

Each patient is evaluated individually, and the care setting and treatment plan are based on clinical needs and available hospital resources.

What the process may include

The process may vary depending on the referral pathway, payer requirements, hospital requirements, and the patient’s clinical needs.

In general, care planning may include the following steps:

  1. Review of referral information and available records

  2. Consultation with the patient, family, guardian, or caregiver and review of medical history

  3. Dental treatment planning and coordination with referring clinicians, medical providers, anesthesia, and hospital teams as needed

  4. Hospital-based dental treatment under general anesthesia when this is the appropriate care setting

  5. Postoperative instructions and follow-up planning

Referrals and getting started

Spectra Dental Care currently receives referrals through established payer and partner referral pathways.

Patient referrals, medical records, and patient-specific information should not be submitted through the website’s General Inquiry form. These should be sent through the established referral pathway or another approved secure communication method.
